Two weeks ago today I was in Cali, Colombia South America recovering from my second eye surgery in as many days. For the past 10 years my vision has been slowly deteriorating to the point that I could no longer safely drive a car. I hadn’t driven for 1 1/2 years. Reading was something I did only as necessary and I was losing the ability to see faces clearly. I started developing cataracts shortly after turning 40. Thinking I was much too young for this, I chalked my deteriorating eyesight to age…..then to an episode of Bell’s Palsy. I also hadn’t had health insurance for about 14 years and there wasn’t an Opthamologist in town who would see me without insurance. After the Florida Legislature allowed me to marry in January of last year, we were able to qualify for Obamacare with at $10,000 deductible.
The time has come for me to explain… I was in Cali, Colombia (South America) for the past 10 days. I went there with ABSOLUTELY no intent but to help a friend who went there to get her eyes fixed. They treat US Medical Tourists like kings and queens but besides that, the people there are wonderful.
